San Antonio Independent Charitable Clinic
Indian community of San Antonio is preparing to start the “San Antonio Independent Charitable Clinic” in the South side of San Antonio. The clinic will be located at the Southwest Branch Clinic of Metro Health run by the City of San Antonio. This clinic is located at the intersection of Poteet and Jourdanton. The area served by this charitable clinic is one of the neediest areas in San Antonio.
This charitable clinic is being organized through the joint efforts of Texas Indo-American Physicians Society (TIPS), South West Chapter, Association of American Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), the India Association of San Antonio (IASA) and the SAI Institute of Educare. The clinic will become a reality due to an unique set of circumstances involving co-operation between the Metro Health District donating the clinic space, Centro Med providing the malpractice insurance under the Federal Tort Act, and the Indian doctors and other medical professionals providing free voluntary service. Doctors, medical assistants, nurses, pharmacists, medical students, dentists and other personnel will volunteer in this charitable clinic.
The clinic will provide following services initially: Primary health care including a well baby clinic, annual physical check up and check ups for employment, maternal and child welfare-care, dental cleaning and extractions. There is a scope for expanding the clinic operations into an ideal holistic clinic model for United States of America to meet the World Health Organization definition of health. This encompasses all the health, education and social welfare needs of the indigenous community that is uninsured or underinsured. The clinic is expected to run weekly on Saturdays between 9 AM-1 PM. The physician credentialing process is underway and the opening of the clinic is imminent. Several prominent Indian community members are in the forefront of this endeavor. See list below:
