It is my honor and privilege to serve as the President of Texas Indo-American Physicians Society, Southwest Chapter for the year 2016.
My goal is to energize our physicians to participate in TIPSSW, a platform to renew our commitment to professional excellence, address changes in health care policy, serve as physician champions to our patients and communities, promote networking opportunities, while celebrating our common roots and culture.
We will be looking ahead, to engage the generation of physicians of Indian origin, born and raised here so they can shape the direction and narrative of the ‘Indian’ physician.
I envision continuing our work with Elementary school children on our very popular Be Fit. Be Cool. Childhood Obesity Awareness program funded by our parent AAPI. We will expand the inaugural Get Fit SA initiative to a Walk with the Doc program.
We become enriched when coming together to appreciate our common roots and culture through the charitable Gala which has become a hallmark annual event. But there is nothing more heart-warming than watching our young TIPS JVP volunteers as they fulfill their commitment to help, learn and lead come rain or shine, school or exam schedules. Hats off to them and their parent mentors. TIPSSW reiterates our moral and financial commitment to TIPS JVP as they consider expanding it to the entire Indian community.
We will continue to co-sponsor the Annual Free Health Fair with IASA.
Foreign born female physicians in this country are more likely to be from India than any other country, 40% of foreign born female physicians being from Asia, of which 1/2 are from India. Women as physicians as well as spouses of busy practitioners face unique challenges. Work-home balance especially for young families is an overwhelming preoccupation. I would like to propose a network of MEDicine Women from INdia. MEDWIN, and compile a resource directory for child, home and self care! This circle could meet periodically to mentor, mingle, relax over tea or retail therapy.
Our organization derives strength and is vitalized by its members.
I invite you to join us on this exciting journey!
